Our Lessons from IMPACT report is now live!
First unveiled at our Fifth Anniversary event earlier this month, the Lessons from IMPACT report brings together learning from IMPACT’s first five years and explores the factors that help create lasting, evidence-informed change in adult social care.
Drawing on practical examples and case studies from across IMPACT’s work, the report highlights the approaches that organisations can adapt and apply in their own contexts. It offers insights into how evidence can be used to influence policy, improve practice, and support meaningful change for adults who draw on care and support, and their carers.

Written and co-designed by IMPACT’s Evidence and Evaluation team, in collaboration with BlueChilli, the 35-page report forms part of a wider collection of IMPACT resources that support evidence-informed improvement across adult social care services.
The report is designed for policymakers, practitioners and commissioners who deliver care and support to adults and their carers across the UK. It can be read alongside IMPACT’s other key resources to support evidence-informed change in adult social care.
Louise McCabe, Head of Evidence and Evaluation and lead author of the report, commented:
“The report draws on experiences from more than 30 of IMPACT’s projects delivering evidence-informed change in practice settings in adult social care and as such provides practical ideas about how to use different types of evidence to shape and drive positive change. We hope that readers will find activities and approaches that they can adapt and try out to drive improvement in the experiences of people who draw on care and support and their carers.”
Jon Glasby, IMPACT Director, added:
“It was fantastic to showcase the Lessons from IMPACT reports at our showcase event in Birmingham, earlier this month. At IMPACT we believe that good support isn’t just about ‘services’ – it’s about having a life. Over the past five years, we’ve been learning what helps make that happen in practice, and this report brings those lessons together. It draws out the things that help to bring about positive change, as well needed to get round all the many barriers, while providing some practical examples from our work to make it more real and show what’s truly possible.
“Some people will be really interested in the detail of what IMPACT has done and is continuing to do, but almost everyone has been keen to know what they can do locally to take forward new ideas and how to go about maximising the chances of success. This report is designed to provide that practical, evidence-informed insight.
